My Story: POV

POV: You thought you were prepared for a baby… until you actually had one 🤯

As a paediatric & neonatal nurse, I really thought I had this whole baby thing sorted. I knew the products, the recommendations, the “best” choices…🩺

But wow — was I in for a reality check. Because nursing other people’s babies? Not even CLOSE to preparing you for your own. (Can I get a DUH? 😅)

Suddenly I was deep in the trenches of:

– Furniture decisions 🧠

– Safe sleep & SIDS guidelines 🍼

– Bottles, dummies, and why there are SO many options??

– Why bibs aren’t waterproof (seriously, why??)

– Trying to avoid plastic… but it’s everywhere 🙃

– Giving up on reusable nappies (RIP good intentions)

– Wanting organic everything… but not the price tag

If you’ve had a baby recently, you already know — it’s a lot, I SEE YOU!.

And just when I thought I was finding my rhythm… we moved overseas when my baby was 3 months old 🌍 ✈️

Cue: starting from scratch.

Trying to find baby products in French 🇫🇷 missing all the familiar Aussie brands, and navigating a completely different system.

Oh—and discovering there were basically NO parent rooms

SO.......where are we changing babies???!

(Shoutout to Starbucks for saving me more than once ☕️😂

And yes — there was a very cold, very desperate nappy change on a park bench in the middle of winter ❄️)

That experience made me realise just how much comfort there is in knowing your products. Your go-to’s. Your trusted essentials.

So… after a lot of trial, error, and lived experience —

I’ve finally put together a list that’s been a long time coming 🤍

Mums (and dads), this one’s for you.

👇 Stay tuned for the essentials I actually swear by

PRODUCTS:

BABY

✨ Pidgeon Baby Bottles - beautiful quality, and available in glass (good for newborns if you don't want plastic)

✨ Haakaa (New Zealand Brand) - good for like everything, amazing quality. I used the breast pump and dummies, 👌🏼

EDUCATION AND RESOURCES

After seeing my fair share of stuff in the hospitals, I always encourage parents to educate themselves further. Check out some resources below;

✨ Paeds Education - First Aid training and CPR, health education courses, run by very experienced paediatric nurses. **I encourage ALL parents and caregivers to get their first aid training.

✨The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) - A little biased, but these parent sheets are spot on and credible.

✨ Triple P Parenting Course - Free Government Funded online course. Amazing, although still getting through content as it really makes you think.

✨ Raising Children Network - Wealth of info and resources, all credible from health practitioners.

✨ Red Nose Australia - SIDS awareness and education. Safe sleeping.

MORE TO COME....
