Photography, psychology and mindfulness🌿

-A personal blog-

Before photography, I studied psychology and art. But, somewhere along the way, I drifted into a world that I didn’t quite fit (even though I was good at it)... too controlled, harsh and too perfectionist (aka the medical/clinical world). But as life unfolded, and thanks to my amazing psychologist (and a lot of hard work) I’ve found my way back — to embracing differences, creativity, emotion and authenticity — through the lens of photography.

And so Laura May Photography was born 📷 🌻

Photography has become more than a creative outlet for me, but also a form of mindfulness and deep healing. The way it invites you to stop, breathe, notice, and really see — it’s a powerful kind of therapy. As SANE puts it, “Photography can have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing. It can boost self-esteem, confidence, memory, and decision making.” 💛

Through this business, I not only create heartfelt images for others — I also embrace the calm, fun and mindfulness practice for myself. Every session feels like art therapy… full of laughter, movement, and connection. It’s helped me return to my true self, ease anxiety, and rediscover beauty in the everyday. ✨

Photography, to me, is love without words (when words often fail me)— a quiet focus, a little giggle, and a little piece of healing in every frame. 🤍
