WHY INVEST IN NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY?
Well, as someone who had my babies during COVID-19 and missed out on both maternity and newborn shoots let me elaborate. Firstly, COVID-19 (need i say more), then to be honest, I didn't even realise at the time how much I needed and would regret not having these later. Once I realised what I missed out on, it was too late! I was so caught up in the moment, the sleeplessness, and couldn't fathom organising a single more thing. I wish someone had just tapped me on my shoulder in this chaos, and gentle said, 'hey, do you think you should get.....'. If you have someone who has done this for you, or you just know you don't want to miss this, then you are so much further along, and good for you!
Long answer to as why I think it's so essential to capture this time, even if you feel semi-conscious, still in pain, anxious about having someone in your space, worried about how your baby will cope, don't be, I've got you! I know it can be daunting preparing for a photo shoot when you feel like you barely have time to even take a shower yourself, but trust me when I say, the effort is worth it. You won't regret having photos, having those early memories, because believe me, somehow you do forget some things (due to lack of sleep etc).
Having beautifully curated and displayed images, in whatever format you prefer, is truly valuable and worth it, I have not heard a single person ever comment that they have too many photos of special times. I also encourage Mum especially to get in the photos as well, because it is known that Mums often get left out of the photos or are the ones valuing and taking them, so therefore they aren't in them, and I want to change that. Your beautiful face (even after 2 hours of sleep) deserves to be captured adoring your baby and mothering. I passionately want people to have these images and to trust the process. To all the Mums, the glowing, got it together ones (don't personally know really any), and to the ones that feel like a hot, tired mess, this is my call to you to not worry and hesitate, but instead to be excited and prioritise yourself and your values. Get the images done!
In summary, as explained here, I am a newborn (neonatal) and paediatric nurse, and have been for a long time. Nothing surprises me or tips me off guard. I have worked in very intense settings, and trust me, I am so excited about working it out together to produce magic and keepsakes you will treasure.
